PARENT READY™FR

Who can consent to care if my parent can no longer decide in Quebec?

In Quebec, a person is presumed capable of consenting to care, and capacity is assessed for each proposed treatment. If the person cannot consent, substitute consent may come from a legal representative or, when there is none, from relatives or another person in the order set by law.

A diagnosis, age or general loss of autonomy does not by itself decide who consents. Parent Ready helps the family identify whether a protection mandate has been homologated, whether another legal representative exists, whether advance medical directives apply, and which contact information should be immediately available.
